The simulation of flood and tidal waves in the real-world is a complex phenomena requiring robust and scientifically sound software. Flood waves, in particular, provide major challenges in complex river, floodplain and levee systems. Urban environments require modelling of pipes under the ground; steep concrete lined channels; and overland flow down streets and around houses. Coastal inundation from storm tides or tsunamis provides further challenges.
